MUJOH – Rootless Transience is an encounter of the practices of Yuko Kaseki and Yasumune Morishige. Their presences improvise forms and sounds within the attempt of rootless awareness. It is the first time they are performing at Grüntaler9 together.

::::::::: Yuko Kaseki (Berlin) is Butoh dancer, performer, improviser, choreographer and teacher, based in Berlin. Solo and ensemble performances, improvisations, and collaborative works are performed throughout Europe, Russia, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Canada, Mexico, Uruguay, Argentina, Australia and the USA. These works are physical performances that incorporate Butoh, contemporary dance, object design, texts, and soundscapes. Since 2004 she performs and organizes the improvisation series “AMMO-NITE GIG” (Vol.1 – 48 and ongoing) with international performers and musicians.

::::::::: Yasumune Morishige (Tokyo) creates a very unique style of improvisation by cello. His sound inhabits a fertility in the freely yet delicate, that goes beyond any traditional method. Further Morishige combines his cello-playing with vocals and acoustic piano improvsations. His concerts are nutured by national and international musicians and Butoh dancers. In addition to his musical activities, he published „Photographs“ issued by Powershovel Books, which is a photo collection seen as a „silent“ field as if any type of sound is muted from the photos.

::::::::: Marialuisa Capurso

Marialuisa Capurso is a singer, sound artist, composer and performer based in Berlin. Her work is multidisciplinary and focused on the connection between voice, sound, field recordings, body and improvisation. She investigates and explores the realm of acoustic sounds and electronic interfaces as extension of human voice. Art and life, sound and movement, the common line is the improvisation that leads her to research and to create other worlds.

::::::::: Ben Brown

Ben Brown is a musician, composer and teacher. A recent recipient of Canada Arts Council’s Professional Development Grant, Brown is currently on a 5-month trip across Europe to study and collaborate with Musicians and Dancers. In April 2013 he received a Juno Award for Best Instrumental Album of the year with the group, Pugs and Crows.

Brown regularly collaborates with Dancers and Choreographers and has worked with Katie Duck, Justine Chambers, Lee Su-Feh and Kenny Pearl. He is the founder of Music And Movement Mondays (MAMM), a weekly collaborative series between live musicians and dancers.

::::::::: Lisa Simpson (Agente Costura)

Lisa Simpson is a sewing agent. She has been playing the Singer, a sewing machine, since 2003. In the daytime she tackles unwanted clothing, pins them down and cuts them up, transforming them into new wearable shapes. By nighttime, the Singer joins her fellow musicians and Lisa sews to the beat of the music, improvising on clothing based on rhythm and sound. The sewing machine is amplified and becomes a musical instrument, and new sculptural garments are created from old clothes.

Lisa has performed extensively on an international level, including at The Vancouver Art Gallery, the Month of Performance Art Berlin, the Bimhuis Amsterdam, Curitiba Fashion Week, among others. In 2014 she was Artist in Residence at Villa Waldberta in Munich, invited by the EU project What’s the Deal.
