Terminalia – a performative survey of boundary techniques by Patrick Monte

Terminalia – a performative survey of boundary techniques by Patrick Monte
June 29 + June 30 + July 1
daily from 12-22h

Terminalia takes its name from the ancient Roman festival held annually in honor of the god of boundary stones, Terminus, during which stones marking the meeting of lands would be consecrated with first harvests, wine, and honey.

Boundary stones and monuments have been observed across history and culture, and in the 19th century became a primary means of establishing triangulation networks used in modern cartography and land surveying.

MIDDLE LIFE? A performative diary ::::::::: by Camilla Graff Junior

Camilla Graff Junior works on “Middle Life? A performative diary” during her two-month residency at Grüntaler9. The diary is to be published in forty-one chapters and will be based on forty-one acts, Camilla did in her 41st year. The acts were divided into series “of celebrating”, “of leaving the past behind”, “of healing” and “of entering the future”. The acts started on her 40th birthday in 2014 and were completed on her birthday one year later, performed at Grüntaler9.

Every Tuesday in May and June 2016 Camilla works on a chapter together with those who pass by during the opening hours 14:00 – 20:00. All are welcome. The residency will finalize in a dinner and a performance including the chapters developed at Grüntaler9.
Tuesday 14 June with special guest Niels Bøgeskov Junior.

On June 24 the residency comes to an end with the Süpperclüb and several performances. Pepe Dayaw (Nowhere Kitchen) will take care of the dinner.

“Middle Life? is the third project in a performance trilogy entitled “Journal(s)”. The common point for all three works is that they integrate autobiographical material and that Camilla use herself as a projection surface in relation to the audience to talk about identity, family relations, grief, norms, gender and love. The first project in the series “My mom is a wolf, my dad…” will be performed at Meinblau Projektraum on June 3rd and the second “Ex(s)” at Theaterdiscounter on June 10th.

The project is supported by: Danish Arts Foundation – Committee for Performing Arts and Nordic Culture Point.

BUKTA PAKTOP & friends ::::::::: A delegation performance

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

During the Berlin Gallery Weekend the Performance-collective Buktapaktop from Brussels will be present with a small delegation from the group accompanied by some friends from Antwerp & Berlin. They will be performing at Grüntaler9 on Friday evening the 29th of April during the Süpperclüb – intervening in the kitchen as well as in the space itself.

On Saturday afternoon they propose a tea-time (Kaffeetisch) pop-up exhibition and various performance presentations at GlogauAIR from 4 p.m.  – with evening presentations commencing at 7 p.m.
These venues will be augmented by various interventions in the public space at various locations in the city, details of which, as well as the general program, will be available at said venues as well as here.

Fäcebook Event

This activity is part of an exchange begun in 2015 with the visit by Irene Pascual and Patrick Morarescu to Buktapaktop, with a subsequent photo-performance evening in November. This can be seen as a return visit and perhaps the beginning of a wider interchange…

Buktapaktop Participating members are:

Dialogist-Kantor – Patacyclical duo that have a long history of alternative spaces, festivals, moments of all sorts…
Julien Celdran – working often with social issues, operating in public spaces and in conjunction with neighbourhood projects, but also more intimate work using his own body…
Lise Duclaux – also addresses social issues though on a more philosophical scale, as well as making use of as much natural references as possible, she often illustrates her position using wild plants and investigating the life of our fellow animals…
LL and Heinrich Obst – often collaborate loosely in various ways, often in a hidden, deflective sort of manner, under different guises and formats…
Accompanied by Antwerp Associates:

Carina Gosselé & Michael Laird also collaborate but not exclusively, often referring to social and political issues of the day, often in conjunction with other groups, individuals, entities to form part of a greater effort…
Viviane Klagsbrun – has retreated somewhat from a background of performance, aktionismus and communality to concentrate on her essential medium of painting and drawing, mainly as an ongoing process of creation and destruction…

Berlin:
Irene Pascual – with experimentation and challenge in the focus, she enjoys collaboration not only with other creators but mostly with audiences, public and visitors…

Organization: Patrick Morarescu & Bureau Gruzemayer

::::::::: Buktapaktop is a loose artistic ensemble operating a performance venue in Brussels, Belgium. Its core group consists of eight artists (one duo) that operate individually as well as in group, depending on the situation at hand. The name derives from the depression-era colloquial for reconstituted smokes: “Flor de Buktapaktop” – essentially a hand-picked selection of butts found in the street, used to make new cigarettes. This diverse group often operates & interacts in the public space, as well as in like-minded, alternative venues.

Often departing from a brainstorming session around a (bukta)table, this project for Berlin also proposes a reference to dinnertime, table, round or square, “Kaffeetisch” (tea-time, coffee-table) as basic premise from where various presentations and activities emanate. It can be seen as a return visit from the recent intervention by Berlin based Patrick Morarescu at Buktapaktop Brussels during the terror-lockdown in November last year.

Body Interfaces: A Processual Scripting

Tina Mariane Krogh Madsen
Body Interfaces: A Processual Scripting

Body Interfaces_Site Scripting_Body Resonance, fragment of score

Body Interfaces: A Processual Scripting is a performative installation generated by Tina Mariane Krogh Madsen over the duration of one week. It wishes to raise questions regarding the role of documentation in artistic research, its status and how it can feed into other processes.

In the spatial frames of Grüntaler9 the artist will be intensively working with and redeveloping her own concept of an archive and resources based on the documents and remains from previous performances and interventions, which will additionally be resulting in other performance structures.

The installation is in an ongoing process that can be witnessed everyday from 2-8pm. On selected days there will be guests invited to discuss and perform with the artist in the space.

::::::::: Tina Mariane Krogh Madsen’s research works with the body and (as) materiality via combining understandings of it that are derived from site-specific performance art and from working with technology.

A crucial part of this research takes the form of interventions and performances, collectively titled Body Interfaces, first generated during a residency in Iceland (May, 2015) and since then developed and performed in various contexts, constantly challenging their own format and method. These practices deal with the body as interface for experience and communication in relation to other materialities as well as the environment that surrounds and interacts with these. The interface is here read as a transmitting entity and agency between the body and the surrounding surfaces. An important part of Body Interfaces is its own documentation, in various formats, shapes and scripted entities.

Fäcebook Event

::::::::: Schedule for April 15 to 22
The processual installation is open daily from 2-8pm and can be witnessed at all time. The processual scripting has a dynamic approach to the space and therefore the installation will arrive and evolve throughout the days, nothing has been in installed in advance – all is part of the process.

Tetsuya Hori – Composer

„The (love) Song Book“
consists of 7 songs based on 6 poems by 6 poets:

1. Reproduction I (by Shinpei Hirano)
ru ru ru ru ru ru ru ru ru ru
ru ru ru ru ru ru ru ru ru ru
ru ru ru ru ru ru ru ru ru ru
ru ru ru ru

2. Another Poem (by Mitsuharu kaneko)
My love.
In the end I’ve become
your poop.
And in the narrow shitpot
I’m being tickled
along with other poops
by the larvae the flies bore.
That I was digested very well by you,
became dregs,
and have been pushed out by you,
I don’t have a smidgen of resentment.
Floating up, sinking,
I called out to you,
my love. There was no way you’d
notice me, the one turned into poop,
you squeaked the door and were out with a bang.

3. A Bone (by Chuya Nakahara)
Look at this, it’s my bone,
a tip of bone torn from its flesh,
filthy, filled up with woes,
it’s the days of our lives
sticking out, a blunt bone
bleached by the rain.
…

4. Washbasin (by Mitsuharu Kaneko)
For many years I had thought that the vessel called the washbasin was something in
which we put water or hot water for us to wash our faces or hands. Nonetheless, the
Javanese fill it with curry soup in which kambing (lamb) and ikan (fish), chicken and fruit,
are cooked, and wait for customers under blooming silk-trees, while Cantonese women sit
astride the same washbasin in front of their “wanton guests” to clean their impure parts
and urinate into it, making desolate shabori shabori noises.
Desolate noises
in the washbasin.
A rainy sojourn
at the darkening tanjung.
Swayed,
listing,
my tired heart
still can’t get rid of the echoes.
As long as my life continues.
Ears. You must listen.
To the desolation of the noises
in the washbasin.

5. A Full View of Rape Blossoms (by Bocho Yamamura)
A full view of rape blossoms
A full view of rape blossoms
A full view of rape blossoms
A full view of rape blossoms
A full view of rape blossoms
A full view of rape blossoms
A full view of rape blossoms
…

6. Canary (by Yaso Saijo)
The canary that forgot his song
Shall I abandon him in the mountains?
Oh no, oh no, you mustn’t do that
The canary that forgot his song
Shall I bury him in the small bush out back?
Oh no, oh no, you mustn’t do that
The canary that forgot his song
Shall I whip him with a branch from the willow tree?
Oh no, oh no, that’s just too cruel
The canary that forgot his song, if we float him out to sea on a moonlit night
In an ivory boat with golden oars, then he will remember the song he forgot

7. The Last Song (mixed texts of songs 1 to 6)

Introdüction to Performätive Writing

performative writing workshop

9hrs Introdüction to Performätive Writing
(advanced courses will follow)

January 8th, 2015 ::::::::: From 11am – 8pm

Facilitäted by Teena Lange
The Course will be in English

Performative Writing or Creative Critical Writing is claimed to be, in itself, a form of performance, often taking as its subject a work of visual art or performance art. The core of this workshop is to develop sensitization for textures and the practice of taking the time to do the doing.

Entering into performative writing allows the re/activation of the wording & being less paralyzed by the empty page, breaking through the trained fixation of meaning seeking structures of texts. Everyone can write. This workshop allows you to take time to experience another writing practice or develop one if you don’t currently have an active writing practice.

Through a series of exercises the workshop will deal with linguistic matters, performative utterances, writing styles, the playground of proverbs, documentation dots & lines, various mechanisms of memory and referentiality, readership & queer quality management.

Who can/could participate ::::::::: people, artists, performance artists, writers, students, mucisians, bloggers, non-writers, curators, academics, philosophers, life witnesses … There is späce for a maximum of 11 participants.

Dedicated to the limited edition APAB Publication: Nussknacker müssen sich keine goldene Nase verdienen {On Obtrusive Communal Speculations}

For more info and to enroll email to ::::::::: info@gruentaler9.com with the subject line “9 hrs performätive writing”
